Elk Mountain Ranch sits on the end of a road,  at the top of a mountain with views of eastern Tennessee on one side and western North Carolina on the other. On a winter day, Roan Mountain and Mt. Mitchell, the highest point east of the Mississippi are visable, as is Table Rock and Grandfather Mountain, the highest mountain in the Blue Ridge. Of course many other mountains are viewed in this secluded equestrian subdivision. It is so quiet, no road noise  from either side is heard, only the wind whistling through the trees and an occasional turkey gobble. It is not a steep climb up the 7/10 of a mile gravel road,  about 3 miles from Highway 221, about 6 miles from Linville, and the same to Newland, the county seat of Avery County, highest county on the east coast. Five  different ski areas are in the area within a half hour drive.  Hundreds of miles of trail are available leaving either end of the ranch,  for four- wheeling, hiking, or horseback riding.
